A 10-year-old girl with persistent ocular swelling

A 10-year-old previously healthy girl presented with unilateral painless right eyelid swelling. On July 4, 2015, her family visited a waterpark, where she developed a headache, fever to 103°F, and was noted to have a swollen right eye. The fever resolved after 2 days but the eye swelling persisted. She was evaluated by her pediatrician and empirically treated with an oral antibiotic (cefdinir), with perceived minimal improvement in the swelling. An ophthalmic evaluation performed at the end of July showed moderate periorbital edema of the right eye without erythema or warmth.
