Chlorhexidine is a cationic polybiguanide that has bacteriostatic, bactericidal, and fungicidal activity. It is adsorbed by the proteins that contain phosphate in the bacterial cell wall, causing the breaking of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane and the leakage of cytoplasmic components.1
