A 9-year-old boy with generalized hypopigmented macules

A 9-year-old boy presented with a 5-year history of hypopigmented macules coalescing into patches over his bilateral upper and lower extremities, trunk, and buttocks (Fig 1). The hypopigmented macules initially presented with some fine scale and erythema, increasing gradually and coalescing with cigarette paper–like atrophy in some areas without any symptoms. He had not taken any medications and reported no preceding inflammation, trauma, radiation, or contact with persons or animals having a similar eruption.
