A 32-year-old woman presented to the University Hospital, Wales, with a 24-hour history of left-sided headache and facial weakness. She had lower motor neurone facial nerve weakness, but a full neurological examination was otherwise normal. The patient had healthy ear canals and tympanic membranes. She was 37-weeks' pregnant with her first baby, and otherwise healthy with no allergies and taking no medication. We made a provisional diagnosis of Bell's palsy, gave her an obstetric review, eye protection, and prednisolone, 25mg, twice a day for 10days (to follow a reducing regimen).
