The sodium/iodide symporter (NIS) is under investigation as a reporter for noninvasive imaging of gene expression. Although 18F-tetrafluoroborate (18F-TFB, 18F-BF4-) has shown promise as a PET imaging probe for NIS, the current synthesis method employing isotopic exchange gives suboptimal radiochemical yield and specific activity. The aim of this study was to synthesize 18F-TFB via direct radiofluorination on boron trifluoride (BF3) to enhance both labeling yield and specific activity, and evaluation of specific activity influence on tumor uptake. *Methods:* An automated synthesis ... περισσότερα »

Abstract NDUFB11, a component of mitochondrial complex I, is a relatively small integral membrane protein, belonging to the 'supernumerary' group of subunits, but proved to be absolutely essential for the assembly of an active complex I. Mutations in in the X-linked nuclear encoded *NDUFB11* gene have recently been discovered in association with two distinct phenotypes, i.e. microphthalmia with linear skin defects and histiocytoid cardiomyopathy. We report on a male with complex I deficiency, caused by a *de novo* mutation in *NDUFB11* and displaying early onset sideroblastic anemi...περισσότερα »

Mean fMRI activation in ventral posterior parietal cortex (vPPC) during memory encoding often negatively predicts successful remembering. Here, we assessed the relationships between pattern-based content representations in vPPC, mean activation in vPPC, and subsequent remembering. Three-dimensional segmentation of retroperitoneal masses using continuous convex relaxation and accumulated gradient distance for radiotherapy planning
Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοΒιοΜηχανικήΠριν από 2 ώρες
Abstract An innovative algorithm has been developed for the segmentation of retroperitoneal tumors in 3D radiological images. This algorithm makes it possible for radiation oncologists and surgeons semiautomatically to select tumors for possible future radiation treatment and surgery. It is based on continuous convex relaxation methodology, the main novelty being the introduction of accumulated gradient distance, with intensity and gradient information being incorporated into the segmentation process. The algorithm was used to segment 26 CT image volumes. The results were compared ...περισσότερα »

Bacillus anthracis Prolyl 4-Hydroxylase Modifies Collagen-like Substrates in Asymmetric Patterns Protein Structure and Folding
orlsfakianakisστοOtoRhinoLaryngology by Sfakianakis G.AlexandrosΠριν από 2 ώρες
Proline hydroxylation is the most prevalent post-translational modification in collagen. The resulting product trans-4-hydroxyproline (Hyp) is of critical importance for the stability and thus function of collagen, with defects leading to several diseases. Prolyl 4-hydroxylases (P4Hs) are mononuclear non-heme iron α-ketoglutarate (αKG)-dependent dioxygenases that catalyze Hyp formation. While animal and plant P4Hs target peptidyl proline,… Continue reading Bacillus anthracis Prolyl 4-Hydroxylase Modifies Collagen-like Substrates in Asymmetric Patterns Protein Structure and Folding
