Histological Spectrum of Angiofibroma of Soft Tissue: Histological and genetic analysis of 13 cases

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοHead,Neck,Brain,Cervical Spine and Esophageal Cancers by Alexandros G. SfakianakisΠριν από 1 λεπτό
Histological Spectrum of Angiofibroma of Soft Tissue: Histological and genetic analysis of 13 cases: Abstract Aims Angiofibroma of soft tissue (AFST) is a rare soft tissue neoplasm characterized by a fibroblastic cytomorphology and a prominent vascular structure. AFSTs possess a novel fusion gene NCOA2-AHRR/AHRR-NCOA2 or GTF2I-NCOA2, enabling a useful approach to diagnosing AFST. Morphologically, AFSTs cross a wide spectrum, making diagnosis a challenge. Thus we decided to review AFST cases and to report previously unknown histological features, which we confirmed by genetic analys... περισσότερα »

Immunoreceptor TIGIT inhibits the cytotoxicity of human cytokine-induced killer cells by interacting with CD155

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοOtoRhinoLaryngology - Alexandros G. SfakianakisΠριν από 3 δευτερόλεπτα
Immunoreceptor TIGIT inhibits the cytotoxicity of human cytokine-induced killer cells by interacting with CD155: AbstractT cell Ig and ITIM domain (TIGIT) is a newly identified inhibitory receptor expressed on T and natural killer (NK) cells. Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells express CD3 and CD56 molecules, and share functional properties with both NK and T cells. However, it remains unknown whether TIGIT is expressed in CIK cells. Here, we show that TIGIT is expressed by CIK cells and interacts with CD155. By blocking TIGIT using an anti-TIGIT functional antibody, we demonstrate... περισσότερα »

Multimodal acquisition of articulatory data: Geometrical and temporal registration: Acquisition of dynamic articulatory data is of major importance for studying speech production. It turns out that one technique alone often is not enough to get a correct coverage of the whole vocal tract at a sufficient sampling rate. Ultrasound(US)imaging has been proposed as a good acquisition technique for the tongue surface because it offers a good temporal sampling, does not alter speech production, is cheap, and is widely available. However, it cannot be used alone and this paper describes a... περισσότερα »

NAD(P)H dehydrogenase, quinone 1 (NQO1) protects melanin-producing cells from cytotoxicity of rhododendrol

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοΑισθητική ΔερματολογίαΠριν από 1 ώρα
Summary Rhododendrol (RD) is a potent tyrosinase inhibitor that is metabolized to RD-quinone by tyrosinase, which may underlie the cytotoxicity of RD and leukoderma of the skin that may result. We have examined how forced expression of the NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase, quinone 1 (NQO1), a major quinone-reducing enzyme in cytosol, affects the survival of RD-treated cells. We found that treatment of the mouse melanoma cell line B16BL6 or normal human melanocytes with carnosic acid, a transcriptional inducer of the *NQO1* gene, notably suppressed the cell killing effect of RD. Nonthermal Atmospheric Plasmas in Dental Restoration

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοOroFacial Medicine by Alexandros G.SfakianakisΠριν από 2 ώρες
It is well known that the service life of contemporary composite restoration is unsatisfactory, and longevity of dentin bonding is one of the major culprits. Bonding is essentially a hybridization process in which dental substrate and adhesive resin interact with each other through an exchange process. Thus, the longevity of dentin bonding can only be improved with enhanced qualities in substrate, adhesive resin, and their interaction within the hybridization zone. This review aims to collect and summarize recent advances in utilizing nonthermal atmospheric plasmas (NTAPs)—a novel... περισσότερα »

Traumatic globe dislocation into the paranasal sinuses: literature review and treatment guidelines

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοOroFacial Medicine by Alexandros G.SfakianakisΠριν από 2 ώρες
Traumatic globe dislocation into the paranasal sinuses is rare. Only 24 cases have been reported in the English-language literature indexed in PUBMED. This form of injury frequently occurs as a result of high-energy blunt trauma mainly associated to traffic accidents. Traumatic globe dislocation into the paranasal sinuses can be explained by the mechanism of blowout fracture when strong blunt trauma forces are applied to the globe fracturing the thin orbital walls and displacing the eyeball. Medical and surgical management of severe globe displacement is still controversial. from ... περισσότερα »
