Rho-proteins are small GTP/GDP-binding proteins primarily involved in cytoskeleton regulation. Their GTP/GDP-cycle is often tightly connected to a membrane/cytosol-cycle regulated by the Rho guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor α (RhoGDIα). RhoGDIα has been regarded as a housekeeping regulator essential to control homeostasis of Rho-proteins. Recent proteomic screens showed that RhoGDIα is extensively lysine acetylated. Here, we […]

First identification of Tn916-like element in industrial strains of Lactobacillus vini that spread the tet-M resistance gene
The open process used to ferment sugar cane juice or molasses to produce ethanol fuel is prone to contamination by bacterial cells of different species, in particular Lactobacilli. The situation can be exacerbated by the emergence of resistant cells to industrial antibiotics that are normally used to combat this contamination. In this work, two *Lactobacillus vini* isolates from ethanol distilleries were identified and found to be resistant to doxycycline, a tetracycline-derivative, although sensitive to other antibiotics tested. The identification of these isolates was confirmed ... περισσότερα »

Chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula is not associated with a switch to a Th2 response.
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis is an interstitial lung disease that develops following repeated exposure to inhaled environmental antigens. The disease results in alveolitis, granuloma formation and progresses to a chronic form associated with fibrosis; a greater understanding of the immunopathogenic mechanisms leading to chronic HP is needed. We used the Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula (SR) mouse model of HP… Continue reading Chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula is not associated with a switch to a Th2 response.

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder and some HPS patients develop pulmonary fibrosis known as HPS associated interstitial pneumonia (HPSIP). We have previously reported that HPSIP is associated with severe surfactant accumulation, lysosomal stress and alveolar epithelial cell type II (AECII) apoptosis. Here, we hypothesized that defective autophagy might result in excessive… Continue reading MAP1LC3B overexpression protects against Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome type – 1 induced defective autophagy in vitro
Regulation of Alveolar Septation by MicroRNA-489
MicroRNAs are small conserved RNA that regulate gene expression. Bioinformatic analysis of miRNA profiles during mouse lung development indicated a role for multiple microRNA including microRNA-489 (miR-489). miR-489 increased on completion of alveolar septation (Postnatal day 42 (P42)), associated with decreases in its conserved target genes Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 [Igf1] and Tenascin-C [Tnc]. We hypothesized… Continue reading Regulation of Alveolar Septation by MicroRNA-489
