The application of p16 immunohistochemistry in diagnostic pathology
Practical issues in via Human Pathology Publication date: May 2016 *Source:*Human Pathology, Volume 51 Author(s): Aparna Mahajan The p16 tumor suppressor gene (CDKN2A) is a member of the INK4 class of cell cycle inhibitors and is located on chromosome 9p21. The p16 protein binds to cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 and maintains the retinoblastoma gene product in its hypophosphorylated state, which in turn binds to E2F transcription factor and prevents cell cycle progression. Expression of p16 protein is increased in aging cells. Immunohistochemistry for p16ink4a is most widely used a... περισσότερα »

Dahlstrom, Erich M. Sturgis, Qingyi Wei Tobacco smoke and alcohol use play important roles in the etiology of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). Smoking causes DNA damage, including double-strand DNA breaks (DSBs), that leads to carcinogenesis. To test the hypothesis that suboptimal DSB repair capacity is associated with risk of SCCHN, we applied a flow cytometry-based met... περισσότερα »
Identification of a predictive factor for distant metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after definitive chemoradiotherapy
Identification of a predictive factor for distant metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after definitive chemoradiotherapy: Abstract Background and purposeDistant metastasis (DM) after definitive chemoradiotherapy has not been a focus of research in esophageal carcinoma. At present, local–regional control is improving following advances in salvage treatments after definitive chemoradiotherapy. There is a need to focus on suppressing the development of DM. The aim of this study was to identify pre-treatment factors associated with DM after definitive chemoradiotherapy.... περισσότερα »

The concurrent TAC chemotherapy regime is not superior in long-term efficacy to the sequential AC->T regimen for adjuvant treatment of breast cancer but the regimens had different toxicity profiles. TAC was associated with increased febrile neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, while AC->T treated patients had more high grade myalgia, hand-foot syndrome, sensory neuropathy, and fluid retention. We […]
