Pregabalin in the treatment of red scrotum syndrome: a report of two cases

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοΑισθητική ΔερματολογίαΠριν από 7 δευτερόλεπτα
Abstract Red scrotum syndrome is a poorly understood, chronic dysesthetic erythema primarily involving the anterior scrotum. Previous reports have indicated that red scrotum syndrome is occasionally responsive to oral doxycycline and oral gabapentin. Otherwise, few therapies have proven successful in treating the disorder. We report two cases of red scrotum syndrome responding to oral pregabalin, an anticonvulsant medication commonly used for neuropathic pain. These two cases suggest pregabalin as an effective means for treating red scrotum syndrome and endorse a neuropathic etiolo...περισσότερα »

The broncholiths commonly are calcified peribronchial lymph nodes that are formed in response to chronic granulomatous infections. The calcified masses either compress the bronchi or erode through the walls into the lumen. They then may be aspirated or expectorated (lithoptysis). Performing routine duodenal biopsy analysis during an EGD could identify patients with celiac disease. We evaluated the cost effectiveness of this approach. Peripheral vasoconstriction induced by beta-blockers

Alexandros G. SfakianakisστοOtoRhinoLaryngology - Alexandros G. SfakianakisΠριν από 47 δευτερόλεπτα
a systematic review and a network meta-analysis.: Abstract Aim Peripheral vasoconstriction has long been described as a vascular adverse effect of beta-blockers. Whether beta-blockers should be avoided in patients with peripheral vascular disease depends on pharmacological properties (e.g. preferential binding to β1-adrenoreceptors or intrinsic sympathomimetic activity). However, this has not been confirmed in experimental studies. We performed a network meta-analysis in order to assess the comparative risk of peripheral vasoconstriction of different beta-blockers. Method We searc...περισσότερα »

Non-canonical WNT5A-ROR2 axis in esophageal adenocarcinoma: The mechanism underlying the progression of normal esophageal mucosa to esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) remains elusive. WNT5A is a non-canonical WNT, which mainly functions via the receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 2 (ROR2), and has an unclear role in carcinogenesis. In this study, we aimed to determine the role of WNT5A/ROR2 signaling in EAC. Analysis of WNT5A and ROR2 expression patterns in healthy controls, Barrett's and EAC patients' esophageal clinical specimens as well as in various esophageal cell lines... περισσότερα »

GRHL2 suppresses GLUD1 sensitizing to anoikis: Resistance to anoikis is a pre-requisite for tumor metastasis. The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) allows tumor cells to evade anoikis. The wound healing regulatory transcription factor Grainyhead-like 2 (GRHL2)suppresses/reverses EMT, accompanied by suppression of the cancer stem cell (CSC) phenotype and by re-sensitization to anoikis. Here, the effects of GRHL2 upon intracellular metabolism in the context of reversion of the EMT/CSC phenotype, with a view toward understanding how these effects promote anoikis sensitivity w...περισσότερα »

Salivary agglutinin is the major component in human saliva that modulates the lectin pathway of the complement system: Saliva interacts with blood after mucosal damage or leakage of gingival crevicular fluid. Surface-adsorbed salivary agglutinin (SAG) activates the lectin pathway (LP) of the complement system via mannose-binding lectin, while SAG in solution inhibits complement activation. In the present study we investigated if, next to SAG, whole and glandular saliva itself and other salivary glycoproteins activate or inhibit the LP. Complement activation was measured by detectin... περισσότερα »
