Coronectomy of mandibular teeth other than third molars: a case series
Coronectomy is gaining popularity for the management of mandibular third molars that pose a risk of injury to the inferior dental nerve, as it considerably reduces the risk when compared with extraction. The technique could also be beneficial to other teeth. We report 17 patients who had coronectomy of mandibular teeth that were not third molars. Clinical and radiographic follow up for a median (range) of 12 (1-79) months showed satisfactory healing and no transient or permanent injury to the nerve. http://ift.tt/1Vtv7C4

by Andreu Blanquer, Anna Hynowska, Carme Nogués, Elena Ibáñez, Jordi Sort, Maria Dolors Baró, Berna Özkale, Salvador Pané, Eva Pellicer, Leonardo Barrios The use of biocompatible materials, including bulk metallic glasses (BMGs), for tissue regeneration and transplantation is increasing. The good mechanical and corrosion properties of Ti40Zr10Cu38Pd12 BMG and its previously described biocompatibility makes it a potential candidate for medical applications. However, it is known that surface properties like topography might play an important role in regulating cell adhesion, prolife... περισσότερα »
Detection and Genotyping of Coxiella burnetii and Coxiella-Like Bacteria in Horses in South Korea
by Min-Goo Seo, Seung-Hun Lee, Dorene VanBik, In-Ohk Ouh, Sun-Hee Yun, Eunsang Choi, Yong-Soo Park, Sang-Eun Lee, Jong Wan Kim, Gil-Jae Cho, Oh-Deog Kwon, Dongmi Kwak *Coxiella burnetii* and *Coxiella*-like bacteria (CLB) are genetically and ecologically distinct despite some genetic similarities. Furthermore, CLB are exceptionally diverse and widespread in ticks, but rarely detected in domestic animals. Since *Coxiella* bacteria can be transmitted from infected horses by inhalation or by coming in contact with ticks during activities such as horseback riding, it is necessary to st...περισσότερα »
Antioxidant Activities of 4-Methylumbelliferone Derivatives
by Yasameen K. Al-Majedy, Ahmed A. Al-Amiery, Abdul Amir H. Kadhum, Abu Bakar Mohamad The synthesis of derivatives of 4-Methylumbelliferone (4-MUs), which are structurally interesting antioxidants, was performed in this study. The modification of 4-Methylumbelliferone (4-MU) by different reaction steps was performed to yield the target compounds, the 4-MUs. The 4-MUs were characterized by different spectroscopic techniques (Fourier transform infrared; FT-IR and Nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR) and micro-elemental analysis (CHNS). The in vitro antioxidant activity of the 4-MUs was ... περισσότερα »
Development of a vestibular schwannoma xenograft zebrafish model for in vivo antitumor drug screening
ConclusionOur in vivo model has the potential to greatly facilitate vestibular schwannoma treatment because of its speed, simplicity, reproducibility, and amenability to live imaging. Level of EvidenceN/A. Laryngoscope, 2016 (Source: The Laryngoscope) http://ift.tt/1RJoiWa
Liver disease in patients undergoing head and neck surgery: Incidence and risk for postoperative complications
ConclusionThere is a high risk to detect liver disease in patients undergoing head and neck surgery of the aerodigestive tract. Those with advanced liver disease are at high risk for perioperative mortality, and this risk should be judiciously considered in medical/surgical decision making and postoperative care. Level of Evidence2c. Laryngoscope, 2016 (Source: The Laryngoscope) http://ift.tt/1PgboEN
Safety of transoral surgery for oropharyngeal malignancies: An analysis of the ACS NSQIP
ConclusionTransoral resection of properly selected oropharyngeal tumors is safe, with low 30‐day morbidity and mortality. A greater understanding of the risk factors for complications following transoral surgery may improve patient selection and safety. Level of Evidence4. Laryngoscope, 2016 (Source: The Laryngoscope) http://ift.tt/1RJosgb
Vocal fold motion outcome based on excellent prognosis with laryngeal electromyography
ConclusionNearly 80% of patients determined to have excellent prognosis for vocal fold motion recovery experienced return of vocal fold motion. This information will help clinicians not only counsel their patients on expectations but will also help guide treatment. Level of Evidence4. A target field design of open multi-purpose RF coil for musculoskeletal MR imaging at 3T
[image: S0730725X.gif] Publication date: October 2016 *Source:*Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 34, Issue 8 Author(s): Fei Gao, Rui Zhang, Diange Zhou, Xiaoying Wang, Kefu Huang, Jue Zhang Musculoskeletal MR imaging under multi-angle situations plays an increasingly important role in assessing joint and muscle tissues system. However, there are still limitations due to the closed structures of most conventional RF coils. In this study, a time-harmonic target-field method was employed to design open multi-purpose coil (OMC) for multi-angle musculoskeletal MR imaging. The phantom im...περισσότερα »
Comparison of actual with default hematocrit value in dynamic contrast enhanced MR perfusion quantification in grading of human glioma
[image: S0730725X.gif] Publication date: October 2016 *Source:*Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 34, Issue 8 Author(s): Prativa Sahoo, Pradeep K. Gupta, Rana Patir, Sandeep Vaishya, Indrajit Saha, Rakesh K. Gupta PurposeDynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI is used to grade and to monitor the progression of glioma while on treatment. Usually, a fixed hematocrit (Hct) value for adults is assumed to be ~45%; however, it is actually known for individual variations. Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of measured Hct values in glioma grading using DCE-MRI.Materials and me... περισσότερα »
