It has been proved that selenium (Se) decreases the severity of inflammatory responses, including the modulation of important mediators of acute asthmatic reactions.1 From an epidemiologic point of view, allergic diseases and asthma have been strongly associated with the modification of nutrients such as Se in the diet. However, there are several observational studies whose results are often contradictory and inconclusive. In our previous report, associations between different factors affecting pregnant women and young children and children's health status were found.
