Abstract

Dr Rai states that the burning sensation has only been included in the F1 category when it is present in both early and advanced cases, and therefore suggests including it in all the stages. There is evidence in the literature that the burning sensation is a specific parameter of onset of OSMF.^{2, 3} However, its significance as an indicator of severity of fibrosis is not well established since advanced fibrosis and the associate trismus restrict dietary intake and patients may avoid any food which causes burning mucosa.
