Simple and effective treatment of chronic salivary fistulas after parotidectomy

The development of a parotid fistula after parotidectomy is undesirable for both patient and surgeon, and has an impact on the patient's quality of life. Most fistulas after parotidectomy heal with conservative measures,1 but when they do not, injection of botulinum toxin into the parotid gland has been used effectively, as it leads to a temporary block of salivary flow and allows the fistula to heal.2–4 In the case of recalcitrant fistulas, however, we know of no papers that support the superiority of any specific intervention.
