Association of patient demographic characteristics with Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans tumor size at diagnosis in the National Cancer Data Base

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, infiltrative but low-grade cutaneous tumor. Middle-aged and younger adults, males, and African-Americans are more likely to be affected by this malignancy, with up to 5 cases per million reported annually in the US. Despite its low metastatic potential and excellent survival, DFSP is prone to recurrence and can be very locally destructive. While most studies did not find significant impact of tumor size on survival, a more recent analysis of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) suggested larger DFSP size to be a risk factor in survival analysis.
