Contemporary asthma treatment has been started with inhaled corticosteroids' introduction to the common medical practice. Universal abundance of this kind of treatment completely changed the clinical picture of asthma and therefore these drugs permanently entered the treatment canon. Current attitude to asthma pharmacotherapy was shaped by the evidence based medicine paradigm. That time inhaled long acting beta 2 mimetics were launched as well. Today, still inhaled corticosteroids and long acting beta 2 mimetics are the mainstay asthma treatment. Beginning of the XXI century was the stormy entrance of the new personalized medicine paradigm and the crisis of the evidence-based medicine could be noticed as a result. These new concepts influence more and more the current asthma treatment. Especially the new biologics and pharmacotherapy tailored to individual patients needs will form the future of the medical behavior in this area.
