I read with interest the article by Bhatia et al,1 regarding the safety and stability of Le Fort I advancement osteotomies of 1cm or more. They corrected the skeletal discrepancy by maxillary advancement with no evidence of serious complications, such as ischaemia and necrosis, and a year later relapse was rare. The procedure is therefore considered to be safe and stable.
