Re: Comparison of local and general anaesthesia for arthrocentesis of the temporomandibular joint

We read with interest the study by Tuz et al1 that compared the outcomes of arthrocentesis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) done under local and general anaesthesia. We agree with the authors that arthrocentesis under local anaesthesia would be preferable in most instances because of the increased cost of care and risk with general anaesthesia and no substantial additional benefit. However, we also wish to make a few observations.
