Μια νέα μελέτη υπό τον καθηγητή Scott Lear του Πανεπιστημίου Simon Fraser παρέχει περαιτέρω στοιχεία για τη σύνδεση ανάμεσα στα συμπτώματα κατάθλιψης και τον αυξημένο κίνδυνο καρδιακών παθήσεων και πρόωρου θανάτου. Πρόσφατη έρευνα από το Πανεπιστήμιο Notre Dame έδειξε πως φάρμακα για τη χοληστερόλη μπορούν να παρεμποδίσουν τα μαστικά καρκινικά κύτταρα να εξαπλωθούν στο μικροπεριβάλλον του εγκεφάλου.
