The researchers used radar to reveal structures still lurking beneath the surface. (Google Earth; Verdonck et al., Antiquity, 2020/)Traditionally, checking out the towns and cities of our ancient ancestors has required a lot of digging. While we’ve been exploring ancient sites for centuries, scientists have been working to find newer, less destructive ways to learn about major sites like Pompeii, as well as the smaller communities that made up ancient Rome. Scientists at the University of Cambridge...

It's highly likely this looks a lot better than the one you got from your internet service provider. (Eero/)When you sign up with an internet service provider, you get a router to blanket your home in precious Wi-Fi. But depending on the model of the router and what exactly you want to do with your home network, an upgrade can make perfect sense for you.If you’re thinking...
Even if you’re not a huge Star Wars fan, the appeal of plunking down into an X-wing or some other slick space fighter has almost undeniable appeal. At least that’s what EA hopes for its upcoming outer space dogfight title, Star Wars: Squadrons.EA unveiled the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Star Wars title at an event last night and, even with massive hype going in, the video delivered on the promised excitement. Can you solve this pair of puzzles? (PopSci/)We know you are bored at home right now—we are too. Here are some puzzles and brainteasers to challenge your family and friends with, either in person or over video chat. The cool thing about this enigma is that only two possible answers can fill each blank: zero and one—and each grid has a sole solution. But only two consecutive zeros or ones can sit next to or below each other, and each row and column must have the same number of zeros and ones. No row...
A contrasting color or something bright, like a hi-vis piece of gear, can help other riders see you better, but always ride like other motorists don’t see you. (Arai/)This story originally featured on Motorcyclist. There’s a lot to learn when you first start out riding a motorcycle. The mechanical aspects of handling the bike are typically the most apparent—how to shift smoothly, how to take a corner skillfully, how to perform an emergency stop, etc. But you also need to get your mind dialed in too,...

Part of its appeal is the fact that the paste used in this technique is...
