Improved cancer detection in Waldeyer’s tonsillar ring by 68 Ga-FAPI PET/CT imaging
Abstract Purpose In cancer of unknown primary (CUP), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with the glucose analog [18F]FDG represents the standard imaging approach for localization of the malignant primary. Frequently, however, [18F]FDG PET/CT cannot precisely distinguish between small occult tumors and chronic inflammation, especially in Waldeyer’s tonsillar ring. To improve the accuracy for detecting primary tumors...

Mutations in membrane‐fusion subunit of spike glycoprotein play crucial role in the recent outbreak of COVID‐19
Abstract COVID‐19, the ongoing pandemic caused by SARS‐CoV2 is a major threat to the entire human race. It is reported that SARS‐CoV2 seems to have relatively low pathogenicity and higher transmissibility than previously outbroke SARS‐CoV. To explore the reason of increased transmissibility of SARS‐CoV2 compared to SARS‐CoV, we have performed a comparative analysis on the structural proteins (Spike, Envelope, Membrane, Nucleoprotein) of two viruses. Our analysis revealed that extensive substitutions...

Overexpression of the ubiquitin‐editing enzyme A20 in the brain lesions of Multiple Sclerosis patients: moving from systemic to central nervous system inflammation
ABSTRACT Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) in which inflammation plays a key pathological role. Recent evidences showed that systemic inflammation induces increasing cell infiltration within meninges and perivascular spaces in the brain parenchyma, triggering resident microglial ad astrocytic activation. The anti‐inflammatory enzyme A20, also named TNF associated protein 3 (TNFAIP3), is considered a central gatekeeper in inflammation and...

A 21-year analysis of the publication patterns and level of scientific evidence in three major oral and maxillofacial surgery journals
High-quality research in surgical sciences is constrained by a number of barriers including funding, blinding, adjusting for surgical experience, and inability to recruit sufficient numbers. As a result, surgeons have been reported to accept lower levels of scientific evidence to validate procedures. Our study analysed the quantity and quality of publications in three journals in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery over a 21-year period. A retrospective analysis of all issues published between 1998 and...

Small bowel obstruction and intestinal ischemia: emphasizing the role of MDCT in the management decision process
Abstract The objective of this article is to assess the computed tomography (CT) findings of small bowel obstruction (SBO) complicated by ischemia. SBO is a frequent clinical entity characterized by high morbidity and mortality. The radiologic aim is not just to diagnose the obstruction itself but to rule out the presence of complications related to SBO. This is crucial for differentiating which patients can be safely treated non-operatively from the ones who may need an urgent...
