ABSTRACT Introduction There are several etiologic factors involved in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. Therefore, current treatment guidelines recommend applying different classes of medications for it. This makes medication adherence a challenging issue in acne patients. The current study was designed to assess medication adherence and its possible associated factors in patients with acne vulgaris. Methods This study was performed on patients with acne vulgaris in two dermatology clinics...
Abstract Background Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), an autoimmune blistering disease is treated with immunosuppressive medications. As the immunosuppressive effect of rituximab, the first‐line therapy of PV, lasts more than six months, many concerns have raised due to the ongoing novel coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) pandemic. With this background, our objective was to review the currently available literature as well as important websites for the evidence related to rituximab, PV and COVID‐19, adverse...
Abstract The efficacy of intravenous rituximab (RTX) in patients with pemphigus have been shown in the previous studies. The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of intralesional injection of RTX in the healing of pemphigus lesions, with lower doses and probable better safety profile than intravenous RTX. Eleven Pemphigus patients with recalcitrant lesions received two intralesional injections of biosimilar RTX, 5mg / cm2. During six months follow‐up, Pemphigus Disease Area Index, the patients’...

Abstract In early-stage sepsis, glucose metabolism is increased primarily through glycolysis in the inflammatory response of M1 macrophages. Heparin-binding protein (HBP) has been linked to sepsis, which can promote macrophage activation and inflammatory factor release. However, the mechanism by which glucose metabolism regulates the inflammatory response is unclear. We show that HBP contributes to sepsis by modulating the inflammatory response via lactate-dependent glycolysis...

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, introduced the third highly pathogenic coronavirus into humans in the 21st century. Scientific advance after the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) epidemic and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) emergence enabled clinicians to understand the epidemiology and pathophysiology of SARS-CoV-2. In this review, we summarize and discuss the epidemiology, clinical features, and...
Successful treatment of tuberculosis (TB) can be hampered by Mycobacterium tuberculosis populations that are temporarily able to survive antibiotic pressure in the absence of drug resistance-conferring mutations, a phenomenon termed drug tolerance. We summarize findings on M. tuberculosis tolerance published in the past 20 years. Key M. tuberculosis responses to drug pressure are reduced growth rates, metabolic shifting, and the promotion of efflux pump activity. Metabolic shifts upon drug pressure...
